Bio
The coursework for the major involved fundamentals in complex mathematics, computer science, and visual arts. In addition, classes covered a variety of elective topics such as philosophy, creative writing, art history, and music. My time spent at Gustavus resulted in a newfound respect for the complexities and potential artistic value of computational systems. In addition, the school's excellent liberal arts curriculum and social atmosphere provided an enlightening forum in which I was able to grow both intellectually and creatively.
After Graduating from GAC in 1998, I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the fall of 1999, I enrolled in the Computer Animation major at the Academy Education Center (now Academy College) in Minneapolis. This curriculum differed from my self-defined major at GAC, as the AEC offered extremely focused hands-on training in the ways of a digital animator. The program began with fundamental storyboarding techniques and went on to cover industrial-strength modeling, animation, soundtracking, and compositing. These techniques were practiced through the use of software such Maya, 3D Studio Max, Sound Forge, and Adobe After Effects. My time spent at the AEC resulted in my second degree in Computer Animation, this time an Associate of Applied Sciences.
After graduating from the Academy, I moved to New Haven, CT for 2 years, during which time I married fellow Gustavus alum, Kira Showalter. Kira attended Yale School of Nursing in New Haven in order to obtain her CNM and Masters in Nurse-Midwifery. During those years, I worked at Exploria Productions as a Computer Animator/Designer.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing kickball, building Retro Arcade Cabinets in my basement, visiting weird sites on the interweb, and learning to better play Go.
